WHO SHOULD ATTEND

All health care providers who is required to take a health care providers course for employment. This includes but are not limited to Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Medical technicians, Respiratory therapists, Doctors’ assistants, Medical, Nursing and Paramedical students, and other allied Health care personnel.

The course is a prerequisite for advanced courses in resuscitation including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Peadiatric Advanced Life Support PALS), Advanced Neonatal Life Support (ANLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), AHA BLS Instructors course; and is an entry requirement for certain post-graduate examinations offered by the CMSA (eg. DipPEC (SA))

The course is open to all persons aged 16 and older.

What is covered in this course?

The Course comprises 36 Lessons and teaches the skills of CPR and choking for victims of all ages, including ventilation with barrier devices, pocket masks, bag-valve-mask devices with supplemental oxygen, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED).

Will I receive a manual?

Yes. A 62-page BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the course. You must receive your student manual no later than 3 weeks prior to the date of the course to allow for adequate preparation. After enrolment and the payment of the course fee, you can either fetch your manual from our offices in Sinoville, Pretoria or we can courier it to you at an additional fee.

Course Duration?

The course will take about 6 hours to complete

Do I get tested?

Yes. You are going to write a test with multiple-choice answers and will need to achieve a score of 84% to be successful.  For successful completion of the course, participants will be expected to demonstrate their proficiency in CPR and the use of an AED.

Do I receive a certificate?

Yes. After successfully completing the course each participant will receive a numbered and internationally recognized American Heart Association (AHA) certificate.

Training venue

We have a modern and well-equipped training facility in Sinoville but based on conditions the course can be facilitated at your premises.

How long will the certificate be valid for?

The certificate will be valid for 2 years from the date of issue.

Can I claim any loyalty rewards for attending?

All Discovery members aged 18 and older can earn points for completing this course. You will earn 2 500 points every year, for as many years as the certificate is valid. Points can be claimed by submitting your certificate to claimvitalitypoints@discovery.co.za

Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

The Course is Continuous Professional Development (CPD) accredited by the Health Professions Council of Southern Africa (HPCSA) for 15 CEU’s.
